Father John Angus Rankin
The Cape Breton Fiddler's Association hosted the first Festival of Cape Breton Fiddling in 1973.
This photo of Father John Angus Rankin is the most associated with those first festivals. Father Rankin was parish priest at St. Mary's of the Angels Parish in Glendale and was instrumental in organizing the first festival. It was a tremendous success which lead to subsequent gatherings in 1975, 1977 and 1979. Eventually the Festival found a permanent home at the Gaelic College and became an annual event.
